Acts 5:1-11
“Good Reason to Fear God”
Ananias and Sapphira were judged and killed by God because they falsely positioned their gift, implying they gave all when they held some back. This revealed a desire to please men more than God. What about us? Do we fear God or people?
The book of Acts derives its name from the “Acts of the Apostles,” but what we will see together is that the catalyst behind the church’s explosive growth was not human courage or strategy, but the power of God’s Word and Spirit – from Jerusalem, across the Roman world, and to the ends of the earth. That story continues to this day. From the first to the twenty-first century, the Word is advancing outward by the power of the Holy Spirit – transforming hearts, homes and cultures in our own day. We are not merely studying history – we are also participating in the ongoing mission of God to save and sanctify for Himself a people that bear His Spirit and share His Word.
