“The Meaning of the Miracle”

The healing of the lame man gave Peter the opportunity to explain the Gospel message to an attentive, expectant crowd. This miracle is both an end in itself (for the blessing of the lame man), but also a means to the end of confirming that Jesus is the Risen Lord and Savior.

The book of Acts derives its name from the “Acts of the Apostles,” but what we will see together is that the catalyst behind the church’s explosive growth was not human courage or strategy, but the power of God’s Word and Spirit – from Jerusalem, across the Roman world, and to the ends of the earth. That story continues to this day. From the first to the twenty-first century, the Word is advancing outward by the power of the Holy Spirit – transforming hearts, homes and cultures in our own day. We are not merely studying history – we are also participating in the ongoing mission of God to save and sanctify for Himself a people that bear His Spirit and share His Word.
