In the four Biblical Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John), a full third of the material focuses exclusively on Jesus’ final week. As we build towards our annual celebration of the greatest day ever – Resurrection Sunday – we will look at the end of Jesus’ life in Matthew’s Gospel. This end is actually the beginning – of King Jesus’ reign, of life eternal, of the church, and of the mission of every Christian. On Sunday, April 2 we learn that Jesus is a different kind of king – he fulfills prophecies of old about the coming Savior, yet he rides humbly on a donkey. This is symbolic of the very task he came to accomplish – to rescue his subjects from sin by laying down his life for them.
